Air Liquide revenue increased 8% on a like-for-like basis and 29% as reported to €6.9 billion in the first quarter, including €6.6 billion for the Gas & Services activity. According to the industrial gases specialist, this increase reflects “in particular the significant increase in energy prices, which are contractually passed on to major industrial customers”. Gas & Services, which accounts for more than 95% of the group’s operations, grew 7.1% on a like-for-like basis.

Buoyed by a better-than-expected performance in the first quarter, Bic has raised its growth target. The consumer goods maker is now targeting a revenue growth target for 2022 in constant currencies at the high end of the 7% to 9% range. “The recent acceleration in cost inflation should have a negative impact on operating margins and we are taking the necessary measures to limit this impact,” Bic cautioned.

Dassault systems

Dassault Systèmes raises its earnings per share target for 2022 on the back of strong first quarter performance. The publisher of computer-aided design and manufacturing software is now targeting adjusted diluted earnings per share growth of 9% to 11%, or €1.04 to €1.06 from €0.98 to €1 previously. Dassault Système continues to target adjusted revenue growth of 9% to 10% at constant exchange rates, or between €5.355 billion and €5.405 billion, and software revenue growth of the same magnitude.

Manitou posted sales of 450 million euros in the first quarter, down 4%. The decline in activity for the cargo handling, passenger handling and earthmoving specialist declined 6% on a like-for-like basis. “This withdrawal is the direct result of the wave of health crisis at the beginning of the year and the difficulties in supplying components that slowed down shipments of finished products,” commented Michel Denis, Managing Director. Order intake for machinery reached 637 million euros compared to 815 million euros in the first quarter of 2021.


It’s Michelin’s turn to lift the veil on its commercial performance earlier this year. In the first quarter of 2022, the tire manufacturer achieved sales of 6.481 billion euros, 19% more than in the previous year. The group cites a slightly positive volume effect of 0.5%; a very favorable price mix effect of 13.5%; strong growth (up 12%) in non-tyre activities and favorable impact (+3.4%) of exchange rates; and a favorable impact on scope (+0.8%).

Schneider Electric

Schneider Electric’s revenue reached €7.566 billion in the first quarter of 2022, organic growth of 9.8% and growth of +15.9% on a reported basis. Products (60% of activity in Q1) grew 13% organically, characterized by double-digit growth in both activities, power management and industrial automation. Systems (22% of sales) achieved 3% organic growth.

The business services provider will release its full-year results and first-quarter revenue.


STMicroelectronics reported net income of $747 million in the first quarter, multiplied by more than 2 (105.1%). The same is true for operating income: +99.5% to $877 million, a margin of 24.7% compared to 14.6% in the first quarter of 2021. Gross margin, a very closely monitored indicator of profitability, fell from 39% in one year to 39% back 46.7%. The semiconductor maker benefited from the leverage made possible by net sales of $3.55 billion, up 17.6%.


Sword’s consolidated sales for the first quarter of 2022 were €63.6 million. Excluding Sword GRC, which was sold in February, consolidated sales were EUR 58.6 million. This revenue includes one month of Ping Network Solutions, a company acquired in March 2022, and three months of AiM, a company acquired in July 2021. The IT group achieved organic growth of 22.6% compared to a budget of 15%.

Worldline’s revenue in Q1 2022 reached €939 million, representing +11.6% organic growth, thanks in particular to continued growth in Merchant Services, with organic growth of +15.8% to €627 million. They benefited from the strong increase in dealer acquisition volumes (+36%). Financial Services recorded organic growth of 2.5% to EUR 223 million.
