Vladimir Putin is carrying out his threats: He has asked the Russian gas giant to stop deliveries to countries that refuse to pay in rubles. In the theater of operations, the bombardments in Moldova intensified.
The information given by the Onet portal this Tuesday, April 26, around 7 p.m., was confirmed by the Polish company PGNiG. As of Wednesday morning, Gazprom stopped supplying gas to Poland via the Yamal gas pipeline. Putin’s ultimatum to pay in Russian currency expired last Friday. Most European Union countries, including Poland and Germany, did not accept this dictate.
“No danger for Poland”
The announcement comes as Warsaw published a list of 50 Russian oligarchs and companies, including Gazprom, targeted by sanctions freezing their assets, under a law passed this month. This is a separate measure from the sanctions taken in coordination with the other countries of the European Union, specifies the Onet portal.
“Since the first day of the war, we have declared ourselves ready for complete independence from Russian raw materials,” said Polish Minister Anna Moskva.
Poland’s energy supply is not at risk, Poland’s climate ministry said, adding there is no need to draw on gas reserves and consumer access will not be cut off.
“The gas pipeline connecting us with Norway will be put into operation in October this year,” said Piotr Naimski, Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, at the European Economic Congress 2022. The gas port has already been expanded in the first phase. It has a capacity of 6.3 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Norway’s gas pipeline has a volume of 10 billion m3. »
More Russian gas in Bulgaria
“Today, Bulgarga’s EAD was informed that Gazprom Export’s supplies will be suspended from April 27, 2022,” the Economy Ministry said in a statement, as this Balkan country is heavily dependent on Russian gas.
However, Bulgaria is 90% dependent on Russian gas. But the leaders say they can quickly gain independence from Russia.
The bombings increase
On the 62nd day of the war, Russia continues the bombing as the United States and some 40 of its allies gather in Germany to supply even more heavy weapons to Ukraine, giving it the means to defend itself and fight the war to win.
Kyiv has accused Moscow of wanting to “destabilize” the pro-Russian separatist region of Transnistria, a region bordering Ukraine but pro-Russian. Washington fears an escalation of the conflict that could lead to a wildfire.
