A Vélorution this Saturday

About sixty people took part in a demonstration by cyclists on Saturday. They are committed to improving the bicycle infrastructure.

(S.MN. with Maximilien RICHARD) Around sixty cyclists gathered in Esch/-sur-Alzette on Saturday to assert their place in public space. The participants of the seventh “Vélorution” set off from building 4, rue de Luxembourg, towards the train station at around 3 p.m. The path led them to Stalingrader Platz. From there they returned to Building 4, the starting point.

The protesters called for secure structures where families can safely ride bikes and additional bicycle parking in the south community. They also asked the municipal administration to make the Rue de l’Alzette accessible to cyclists every day. The alternative route that has been in force since the end of 2020 would be chaotic and dangerous.

In addition, demonstrators campaigned for the introduction of bicycle streets. For the latter, the maximum speed must not exceed 30 km/h. Cyclists have priority and cannot be overtaken by cars. Such cycle lanes already exist in Luxembourg City, for example, but not yet in Esch.
