The Maitrankfest takes place every year on the third weekend in May. This is an important event in Arlon folklore, honoring its famous drink: Maitrank, a wine flavored with sweet woodruff.
The 2022 edition, scheduled for May 21st and 22nd, will have a very unique flavor. It will mark both the grand return of Maitrank celebrations after a two-year absence due to the health crisis, and the birth of a new, more ambitious organization. The general free event will be maintained.
Logistically, the works on Place Léopold, with the aim of creating an events space by 2024, have obviously turned the usual plans upside down. It was also decided to move the Maitrank celebrations to Rue Paul Reuter and Place des Chasseurs Ardennais. This new configuration offers several advantages, in particular the large space to set up many animations. With a few exceptions, these events are, as usual, completely free of charge.
“After two years of absence, the Arlon audience is impatiently waiting for the Maitrank. Our goal is to honor the occasion, to pack the small dishes into the big onesdescribes the festival committee responsible for organizing the celebrations. With the work on Place Léopold, the opportunity arose to reinvent the spatial organization of the celebrations. We gave each other carte blanche, the only bid being that the event stays downtown.
The choice finally fell on Rue Paul Reuter and Place des Chasseurs Ardennais due to their ideal geographical location and the large spaces available. These make it possible to organize many activities and to welcome a maximum of participants in a friendly and safe environment. “ With the concert series on Saturday evening, we needed a large open space. The Place des Chasseurs Ardennais offered all the criteria we were looking for. The same can be said of Rue Paul Reuter, whose layout makes it possible to host many activities and to welcome several thousand visitors while maintaining conviviality.” continues the organizing committee.
Another novelty, the small Maitrank fair, which is usually installed on Schalbertplatz, will be an integral part of the entertainment offer for visitors. Indeed, some showmen will make their way to Rue Paul Reuter and set up their shops in front of the municipal administration. This further enhances the festive and good-natured character of the celebrations.
Finally, the children are spoiled on Sunday afternoon. A completely free show will be dedicated to them from 2 p.m. on the square in front of the town hall.
